After receiving your Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in fire science technology, you can work in volunteer or paid community fire services in the governmental, insurance, business and industrial settings. You may become a:

  • Code enforcement officer
  • Firefighter
  • Fire safety specialist
  • Industrial safety specialist
  • Plan reviewer
  • Underwriter

You are most suited for this program if you are a problem-solver, able to perform in high-pressure situations and demonstrate compassion, courageousness, dependability and physical fitness.

Our program provides you with a solid foundation for continuous learning in fire protection, administration and management. We are recognized as following the U.S. Fire Administration/National Fire Academy’s Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education Model for Professional Development, which is nationally recognized within the industry.

You will walk away with the technical skills and professional knowledge to succeed in this career. By completing our program, you will be able to:

  • Identify the requirements of various fire protection environments and operate the equipment related to those environments
  • Recognize the prevention and suppression of hazards by means of building inspections and hazard descriptions, application for safety codes and the use of proper procedures for hauling and storing hazardous materials
  • Explain the operations of fire extinguishing and warning systems
  • Conduct fire investigations
  • Manage a fire protection organization through effective use of manpower and equipment

Yes! Our associate degree programs are designed to be flexible enough to transfer to a wide variety of colleges and universities with no loss of credit. However, each individual college has its own unique program. We encourage you to select a four-year school as soon as possible. This will allow you to learn the transfer college’s program requirements so that you can take the proper classes at HACC.

 

You may complete this program at our Harrisburg Campus through various modalities (e.g., on-campus/in-person instruction, hybrid, synchronous remote instruction and/or asynchronous instruction).

Yes! We offer many scholarships through the HACC Foundation. Each scholarship has specific eligibility requirements. To learn how to apply, please visit hacc.edu/Scholarships.

HACC offers classes in the spring, summer and fall. You can apply anytime through our website. When you submit your application, please include the unique program code 6636. This code ensures you are applying to the correct program.
